but for my blog’s first birthday, I’m giving it a makeover. I’m still working on some things, like a new logo for one. For posterity, here’s the old one:

One of my husband’s favorite arguments for continuing his most time-consuming hobby is the slim chance that he will be injured (as opposed to the high probability that I will be injured if I continue mine). Friday evening, I was sending him off on another hunting weekend when his hunting buddies asked me if I was going to continue playing roller derby. I replied that I had every intention of doing so if at all possible, and my husband made the usual unsupportive quip. Of course, I told him he was more than welcome to get back in the car and never go hunting again, and he played his favorite argument card. My husband tells me he never gets hurt at the deer lease while I’m staring at his friend that dragged him down the road dangling by his ankle from the back of a jeep. Oh, really?

Well, that conversation must have jinxed him, because this Sunday, he came home with a gash on his wrist that really needs stitches. While I’m truly concerned about his injury, I can’t help but gloat a little inside.

Nobody out there has come forward with video or pictures of my foot flopping around on the end of my leg, so I must link to someone else’s video. This is EXACTLY what my ankle looked like when I broke it, minus the roller skate pulling my foot further down. And my leg was not that hairy YET.

First, Goldie and I reserved the room for our Christmas party, and I sang a little song while we were there (sometimes it’s the little things). Then, the bone doc tells me I can put my skates on whenever I’m ready. I’m still in shock since that’s a total 180 from a month ago. Now, I find a plane ticket waiting for me in my inbox. I get to go to Maryland and party on The Yankee’s home turf, unless she wants to go somewhere else. Hmmm, maybe Vegas??? AND tonight, I’m going out on a school night (without the ball and chain, thank you very much)! Sitting in this empty library can’t even put a damper on it.

Here’s something Catazon didn’t expect to hear today: “You can put skates on.”

Yes, the doctor told me I can feel the skates out whenever I’m ready.  Very convenient now that Houston Roller Derby is on its off-season and skating outdoors.  I’m definitely not ready for that, so I’ll probably have to stop by an adult skate one of these weeks. Maybe next Thursday?

everytime!!! Vallejo is at the Continental Club on Friday night, and I might have to miss them AGAIN. For one thing, everyone I want to go with me can’t afford it (or won’t). For another, I’m planning on going out Thursday for Sutton Impact’s birthday. Going out two nights in a row is reserved for things like rodeo or celebrating the fact that I can walk again, not just an ordinary weekend. WHY DO THEY DO THIS TO ME?!?!?!

Back to dreaming about a purple Christmas…

Plans are already being made for celebrating the season…Goldie BloXX and I are throwing a party! Karaoke will be the featured activity (what a surprise!), and we will ask for minimal donations for your share of the alcohol. More details to come later; just keep us in mind. Goldie and I have both been through some hard times this year, and we would really love to share some good times with our friends.

A Good Day at Work?!?!?!  I had to write it down, because it’s true.  A day that I thought was going to be horrible after saying “The three-hole punch is in the top drawer of that desk” three times in thirty minutes actually turned out to be productive.  My so-called boss gave me a research project, and I completed a web bibliography on rubrics.  Cool.  Then we talked about the budget.  Not bad.  To top it off, I think only one person commented on the fact that I’m walking now.  Having several people comment daily is getting really annoying since I’ve been doing that for a few weeks.  Oh, and nobody kicked the door stopper out today!  Trivial, I know, but when you’ve got nothing better to do…

Catazon may be down for the count, but The Kitten is following in her footsteps.
