Texas Library Association Conference

April 26th, 2006 by Catazon

sounds like fun, right? Not usually…but this morning I got to see about 10 minutes of clips from the illustrious screen career of Dame Julie Andrews before hearing her speak about her other career…writing and publishing children’s books. In those clips was the coolest thing I’ve ever seen at a library conference…an out-take of Julie Andrews in a retro roller derby uniform and skates. Apparently, it was from her short-lived variety hour that aired in 1972-1973. I wish I had the time to scavenger for a picture.

Also, my second-favorite library professor who is now dean of my alma mater won a lifetime achievement award. The only bad experiences so far for TLA 2006 are the usual librarian fashion fuck-ups…bleeegghhhh.

Squidoo

April 24th, 2006 by Catazon

As if I’m not busy enough, I started a roller derby lens on Squidoo. While checking out a librarian’s lens, I got the urge to search on roller derby. No results. Naturally, the competitive and creative juices in Catazon started flowing…

April 21st, 2006 by Catazon

Some truly spectacular pictures of Houston Roller Derby’s first bout have just been posted on the website. Shelley Calton is the artist, and she did a great job of capturing the energy and emotion of that entire night. Meeeeeoww!

Library Instruction Revisited

April 20th, 2006 by Catazon

I just found out that all the words of wisdom I posted a couple of days ago about library instruction, Generation Y, and how the two converge in my library disappeared. It’s extremely rare for me to express any kind of serious opinion about anything, and when I finally take the time to sit down and write about one moment of lucidity, the server decides to eat it. Unfortunately, I’ve slept since then and haven’t been eating very well due to my attempt to slim up a tad before appearing at derby prom, so I won’t be recreating the previous post.

Burlesque Brawlers vs. Machete Betties

April 11th, 2006 by Catazon

Goes a little something like this…Brawlers 106 – Betties 66.

We dominated them! How could the Brawlers not dominate with players like this…
Catazon's First Jam

MySpace post on the same day:
Bout 1 of the Burlesque Brawlers of the Houston Roller Derby ends like this:

Brawlers 106 – Betties 66

Even though Catazon couldn’t stay on her feet…maybe because I trimmed my whiskers the day of the bout? hahahahaha

Looking forward to delivering the horse’s head to the Bosses on the 29th.

On the Radio

April 7th, 2006 by Catazon

Today will be my first time to be on the radio for something other than winning tickets. I can’t believe I’m nervous. I’ve been on television many times…first in a department store commercial way back in the late 70′s, on roller skates no less…when I graduated from high school, I was invited to say my name and school on KPRC due to my top ranking in my class…one time, I filmed a stupid question for Matt Bullard at a Rockets game, and I do mean STUPID…AND, last but not least, when I played women’s professional football, I made numerous appearances on camera. Those situations were for the most part scripted, and that’s why I’m nervous. Too many opportunities on the Outlaw Dave Show on KIOL 103.7 for naughty things to come out of my mouth. Listen if you can.

In related news, HRD was on the news last night. KHOU told us it would be Friday night, so nobody taped it. I hear that one of my takedowns may be featured. If so, put that on the list above.
